Shield Eventone for Dark Underarms (Review)

Are dark underarms getting you down? Same. I’ve had dark underarms my whole life but it’s not really bothered me until recently.

As a style and beauty blogger, I’m often filming, shooting different looks and I find myself feeling self-conscious when my arms are raised. With pictures, I can always use Photoshop to lighten my underarms, but with videos, there’s no covering it up.

My underarms – which as a result of the dark tone – resembles a hairy armpit and is visible for all to see whenever my arms are raised.

I had almost resigned myself to living with the embarrassment of dark underarms for the rest of my life when I was selected by Beauty Bulletin, as one of the lucky few to take part in the Shield Eventone 7-day challenge.

About The Shield Eventone Deodorant

The Shied Eventone deodorant is said to specifically target dark underarms and gradually even it out over time, in 7 days!  The deodorant is new to the market and contains vitamin b3 which works to reduce the appearance of dark underarms.

The Shield Eventone deodorant is also said to protect you from sweat and odour.

I’ve been using the deodorant spray for over 10 days now and I keep getting questions on Instagram with people wanting to know if it works.

Well, today is the day that I share all.

Here are my list of pros & cons using the Shield Eventone deodorant
PROS

It has a fresh, fragrant scent. Not a scent that I’m used to, but not unpleasant so I’m not complaining.
Easy application.  It is easy to use, just spray under your armpits or if you’re using roll-on, roll on your pits.
It is alcohol-free. Always a plus in my books. Alcohol products can be very drying on the skin.
Contains vitamin b3 complex. This vitamin works to target and even out dark underarms.
Affordable and accessible. It is cheaper than the other two brands of deodorant that I typically use and you can get it at your nearest Clicks store.
It doesn’t stain or leave white marks. This is definitely a bonus because even some deodorants that claim not to leave marks white stains do.

CONS

It doesn’t provide 24hr odour control. I found that while I participated in very little physical activities, I didn’t stay smelling fresh for more than a few hours in the 3 days using this product. But I can’t say that’s the case anymore because I seem to maintain a fresh scent even after 24hrs so maybe that had more to do with my body getting used to the product.

Finally, I guess what you really want to know is if it worked to reduce dark marks? Honestly, not from what I can see. From my before and after picture, it’s difficult to tell and in real life, my underarms look the same which is disappointing because I was very hopeful.

Some individuals who took part in this challenge did see results, while others, like myself, did not. So I guess it worked for some and not for others, although I can’t say why.

I’ll give it a month and check back, but for now, I can’t confidently say that I noticed a difference. Can you see a difference?

Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it for dark underarms because it has yet to work for me. However, because results vary, you may want to try it out if you have no other alternative. Price-wise, it is affordable so even if it doesn’t work to even your underarms, you can simply use it as a deodorant.

The Shield Eventone deodorant is available for both men and women.  150ml spray bottle (R24.99) and roll-on bottle (R18.99) is sold at Clicks.

Kiehl’s Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream

[fetch ids=”199,200″]

I’m new to the Kiehl’s brand. I mean, I’ve heard of Kiehl’s, I’ve just never used their products.

What I heard has been all good, so much so that I was influenced to buy some of their products a couple of weeks ago. But that is a post for another day.

Today is about the new addition to the Kiehl’s Calendula range,  the serum-infused water cream. What’s that about you ask? Allow me to introduce you…

KIEHL’S INNOVATES WITH HERITAGE INGREDIENT, CALENDULA, IN NEW SERUM-INFUSED WATER CREAM

Kiehl’s introduced its customers to the Calendula Petal in the 1960s with the launch of Calendula Herbal Extract Toner, currently Kiehl’s #1 best-selling toner globally.

Ever since, Kiehl’s chemists have continued to harness the time-tested, efficacious benefits of Calendula through the 2014 launch of the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash and in 2017, the addition of the Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask.

Now, Kiehl’s welcomes a unique addition to the Calendula family, the NEW Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream.

Upon application, the water cream’s weightless formula releases a burst of soothing, long-lasting hydration, leaving skin feeling soft with a dewy-fresh finish.

The formula gives instant relief from the feeling of skin discomfort due to skin dryness. It also aids in strengthening the skin barrier, by helping to diminish the early signs of ageing that occur when the skin barrier is compromised by environmental irritants. With continued use, the formula also visibly reduces the visible signs of skin discomfort.  Does that sound like music to your ears?

Here is a quote from Roberta Weiss, Head of Product Innovation for Kiehl’s explaining how the product came to be:

We know our customers love Calendula, so Kiehl’s chemists formulated a water cream featuring that iconic Kiehl’s ingredient and took it to the next level by infusing it with a Calendula serum, providing the efficacy of the Calendula petals in a new texture.

She further explains,

Through a unique formulation technique, the water cream utilizes our highest concentration of Calendula Flower Extract in a formula that helps to soothe and refresh skin while also providing a visible glow.

UNIQUE SERUM-INFUSED FORMULA ARCHITECTURE

Native to the Mediterranean, Calendula is known for its skin-soothing properties and has been a highly regarded herb in both Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine for many centuries. The unique architecture of Kiehl’s formula is constructed to “house” the concentrated Calendula Serum ingredients within the water phase. On application, the serum infusion transforms and delivers hundreds of micronized Calendula Petals and Calendula Extract directly to the skin.

RESULTS

Kiehl’s tested the formula and found the Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream has multiple benefits.

Clinical testing showed the serum-infused water cream:
✓ Improves the look of fine dry lines
✓ Makes skin texture look and feel smoother
✓ Boosts skin’s radiance & suppleness

Sounds a bit too good to be true? Well, lucky the Kiehl’s team sent me the range to test. I started using it yesterday and will document my journey to share with you in a review.

Are you familiar with the Kiehl’s Calendula range? Leave a comment below if you’ve used any Kiehl’s product, which one you would recommend and why.

Product Review: Dove Purely Pampering Body Wash Range

Dove is a personal care brand owned by Unilever and has been around for over 6 decades.

I grew up with my mum using Dove. It’s a classic.

Dove has had its fair share of controversy, as a matter of fact, I stopped using Dove products a few years ago, 2017 because of its racially insensitive ads.  But, as a believer in second chances, I have decided to give the brand another chance, let love in, I mean, Dove. Let Dove in.

Dove’s recent campaign on #RealBeauty was intended to break the negative chain of misrepresentation of women in the media. This initiative, coupled with my resolve for a second chance got me to see Dove in a more forgiving light.

In the spirit of second chances, I signed up with Rubybox to test and review the Dove Purely Pampering Body Wash range, here are some of my thoughts, but first…

What you need to know about Dove Purely Pampering Body Wash

The unique NutriumMoisture technology is said to give you softer, smoother skin just after one shower.

Dove’s 1/4 moisturising cream together with warm, feminine scents create a Purely Pampering range with Shea Butter & Warm Vanilla and Coconut Milk & Jasmine Petals.

Both are creamy, nourishing and rich, with a fragrance designed to take you to a place of deep relaxation, and create a beauty ritual that leaves you feeling truly pampered.

Let’s get to the nitty gritty, shall we?
Here are my thoughts:

I’ve always preferred body washes/shower gels to bar soaps. I love the smell of a fragranced body wash, and I enjoy the moisturising and soothing effects you get from body washes.

The Dove Purely Pampering Body Wash range consists of:

    1. The Shea Butter & Warm Vanilla (R39.99 at Clicks)

                                                  and
2. Coconut Milk & Jasmine Petals (R39.99 at Clicks)

Both of these washes come in a 250ml bottle.  They are cream in colour and have a medium cream-like consistency.

A dime-sized amount of the wash is all you need to wash the entire length of your body.

The Shea Butter & Warm Vanilla body wash smells divine. You can smell the sweet smell of vanilla with each wash.

The Coconut Milk and Jasmine Petals smells just as divine. Just imagine the smell of coconut and jasmine… it takes you to a tropical paradise, doesn’t it?

It was difficult to pick a favourite of the two but I definitely love the scent of the shea butter and warm vanilla better.

Here are some PROS
  • Warm, luxurious and feminine scents
  • Creamy texture that lathers well
  • Size and package makes it easy to travel with
  • The fragrance lingers on the skin after a shower
  • Allergy-free
  • Affordable
  • Leaves skin feeling soft

There is no con that I can think of except that I would like it in a bigger bottle and maybe they can come up with different scents.

Recommendation

Would I recommend this range? Absolutely! I love everything about it.

Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask for Oily Skin

Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask

Ever heard of a self-heating mask? A mask that purifies your pores in just 1 minute? The Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask is said to do just that and more. I put this claim to the test, keep on reading for my honest review.

But first…

Skincare

Maintaining a great skincare routine has become an obsession of mine.

To be perfectly frank, I don’t have the time nor the budget to frequent the spa as I once used to and so I make up for it by trying new products and splurging on skincare.

I like to think of myself as a skincare enthusiast. I love trying new products, seeing what works and what doesn’t and recommending the ones that have worked to friends and family. Just think of me as your guinea pig or mirror.

A face mask is an important part of any skincare routine but with so many products on the market, it’s kind of difficult to choose.

And there’s nothing more painful- to me at least- than paying good money for a product that doesn’t live up to its expectations.

What does Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask do?

The Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask claims to give you purified pores in just 1 minute. The formula heats on contact with water to open the pores and draw out deep down dirt, oil and impurities, leaving the skin tingly smooth.

It contains natural charcoal, known for its ability to draw out impurities and trap them.

How to Use the Biore Self Heating Mask

Step 1Wet face.

Step 2Apply Mask. With dry hands, open one sachet (there are four sachets in a pack) and apply entire content of sachet on your face.

Step 3Massage for 1 minute. The mask will heat up as you massage.

Step 4 – Rinse. After 1 minute, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove the mask.

My thoughts
Pros
  1. It contains charcoal. Charcoal is known for its absorbing powers. The charcoal in the mask draws out impurities, leaving your skin clean and clear.
  2. It is a 1-minute mask. The fact that it is a one minute mask makes me love it all the more. Perfect for those days when you are on the go but still want to have radiant looking skin.
  3. Oil-free. As someone with oily skin, I appreciate the fact that this mask is oil-free and helps to combat oiliness.
  4. Cooling on the skin. This mask is initially warm on the face during and after application but after rinsing it with water, you get a cooling feeling on your face that feels very refreshing!
  5. Radiance. I’m not easily impressed with products and I must say that I didn’t immediately see any visible results on the first application but by the second try, my face looked more rested and refreshed.
Cons

Can’t think of any, except to say that the heating effect of the mask is strange at first and may even momentarily feel uncomfortable but your face adjusts to it. Plus, you only need to have it on for 1 minute, rinse off and voila!

Recommendations?

I would 100% recommend the Biore Self-Heating Mask to anyone with oily skin. It’s quick and easy to use, leaves your face clear and free of impurities, what’s not to love? I personally haven’t tried anything else quite like it.

The mask is available for purchase at Clicks for just R135 (there are 4 sachets in each pack). The Deep Pore Cleanser which can also be used in conjunction with the mask is R135 at Clicks.

The Biore Self Heating Mask was sent to me by Rubybox to test and review for Biore. My review is an honest account of my experience using the product.

Say Goodbye to Blackheads – Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips

About a week ago, I was sent the Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips to review.

Typically, pore strips isn’t part of my skincare routine. I have tried using a different brand of pore strips in the past and it was a fail. The strip did not stick to my nose properly and so it didn’t work.

That was it for me, I had a couple more strips in the box that I didn’t bother trying again after that first failed attempt but for some reason, I signed up to try the Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips for Rubybox.

So, will this one work? Let’s wait and find out, shall we?

What are blackheads?

Blackheads are a combination of dirt and oil that clog the pores and stop your face from living its best life. Just imagine a dustbin overflowing with rubbish, it is stinky and unsightly, just like blackheads – except for the stinky bit.

What does Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips Do?

The pore strips act as a vacuum that sucks all the dirt and oil that causes blackheads, thereby unclogging your pores.

Directions
  1. On a clean face, wet your nose.
  2. Remove the strip from the pouch.
  3. Peel off the plastic liner.
  4. With dry hands, place the strip on your wet nose.
  5. Leave on for 10 – 15 mins.
  6. Gently peel and rinse off any residue.
Price/Stockists/Ingredients

The Biore Charcoal Deep Cleansing Pore Strips is R135 at Clicks and contains 6 in a pack.

Its list of ingredients are:

Polyquaternium-37, Silica, Aqua, Glycerin, Polysilicone-13, Iron Oxides/CI 77499, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Methylparaben, Menthol, Charcoal Powder, Styrene/Stearyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer.

Verdict

I would recommend this product. It definitely works to remove blackheads and it gives me such a satisfying feeling to remove the strip and see all the dirt and oil attached to the strip. My nose also feels soft to the touch and not rough.

I even took it one step further and used it on my chin which is the roughest part of my face and it sure did the job. Now, my chin and nose are both smooth and not rough and bumpy.

Have you tried the Biore Charcoal Deep Cleansing Pore Strips?

Review: Environ Focus Care Range

Just before I turned 30 years old, I made the decision to invest in good skincare. My main skin concern is ageing, I want to stop the signs of ageing in its tracks and remain beautiful and youthful forever.

There are certain skincare ingredients that are known to reduce the signs of ageing, one of which is Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s).  Read my list of other skincare ingredients here.

AHA’s work by removing the skin’s top layer (dead skin cells) to promote more radiant and firmer skin. The Environ Focus Care Range contains AHA’s and so I was very excited to test this range which was sent to me by Beauty Bulletin as part of their #FocusOnFlawlessSA campaign. Anything to have flawless, youthful looking skin, right?

I was sent the Tri Biobotanical Revival Masque and the Vita-Antioxidant Hydrating Oil Capsules from the Environ Focus Care Range to test and review.

Read my review of these products below.

But First…

About Environ

If you go to spas/salons for facials, waxes and or mani-pedi then you would have no doubt seen Environ products on the shelves.

Environ is a Global Professional Skincare brand developed by a renowned plastic surgeon, Dr Des Fernandes.

Whatever your skin type or issue, Environ has a Focus Range for all concerns.

Discovering Environ

Prior to using the Environ Focus Care Range, I was already using the Environ Original Debut Moisturiser, the first level in the Original Step-Up System.

This range was specially formulated to slowly introduce Vitamin A to the skin.

How it works…

Typically, an Environ consultant or beauty therapist starts you off on the Debut  (starter) range which has a low concentration of Vitamin A, slowly but gradually increasing the dosage of Vitamin A with each product in the Vitamin Step-Up System so that your skin can adjust and become accustomed to the products without reacting badly to it.

The  Original Debut Moisturiser not only has a low concentration of Vitamin A, but also Vitamin C and E and a combination of antioxidants to help combat free radicals.

Four Week Review

Focus Care Youth+ Tri Biobotanical Revival Masque (R1020.00)
Benefits

This masque is formulated with a revolutionary combination of three powerful ingredients, Asiatic Acid, Lactid Acid and d1-Mandelic Acid that may assist in enhancing the skin’s overall look and feel as well as resilience.

The masque has been described in the beauty community as a ‘facelift in a jar’.

Packaging

I like the packaging of this tub. Clean, sophisticated, simple and innovative: once you open the lid, you just press down and out comes a very light, creamy, liquid from the tub.

Directions
  • Cleanse and tone before applying a thin, even layer of the masque to your face with the brush and leave on for up to 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your recommended Environ vitamin A moisturiser, in the evening.

Application and Results

It is a very easy and mess-free application.  You don’t have to get your hands dirty or get the product underneath your nails. Those with long nails know the struggle. You simply use the brush to get the product from the tub to your face, easy peasy, right? Even though the masque is a creamy, white texture, it applies clear on the skin.

The first week I used the Revival Masque on my face, I felt a mild tingle that lasted 2 seconds but no tingle in the preceding weeks.

The one consistent feeling in the following weeks was a tightening on my face after applying the masque. Not uncomfortably so, surprisingly the least uncomfortable tightness I’ve felt from a face masque.

It really did feel like a facelift, or what I would imagine a facelift feels like. My face looked radiant and felt soft to the touch immediately after my first use. Talk about instant results!

Because of the various acids in this product, it comes with a sunburn alert. You are advised to avoid overexposure to the sun to avoid sunburn. Also, the use of sunscreen is recommended.

Shelf Life: Twenty Four (24 months) unopened. Should be used within 10 -12 weeks after opening. Sold in Professional Skincare Centres.

Review of Environ Focus Care Range

Vita-Antioxidant Hydrating Oil Capsules – 30 Capsules for R730
Benefits

Vita-Antioxidant Hydrating Oil Capsules deliver a concentrated burst of vitamin enriched hydration for the skin. Containing a blend of Retinol and Antioxidants, these capsules may help to protect the skin against the damaging effects of free radicals.

Look and Feel

The hydrating oil capsules can best be described as ‘luxury’ in a capsule. You simply twist the capsule and out pours the oil, like 24k liquid gold.

Directions
  • Pre-cleanse, cleanse and tone with your preferred Environ products
  • Apply the contents of one capsule and gently massage into the skin as your evening moisturise
  • Alternatively, mix the contents of one oil capsule with your recommended Vitamin A moisturiser or apply over your usual evening moisturiser.

Application and Results

I twist and open the capsule and apply the oil apply the oil all over my face. The oil is, of course, oily but light on application. It instantly hydrates, making my face visibly radiant.

Although initially oily upon application, it absorbs into the skin leaving my face soft and glowing the next morning.

I have used the oil both on its own and with the Original A Debut Moisturiser and both times my face was glowy, and radiant.

Shelf Life: Thirty-six (36) months unopened. Should be used within 12 months after opening.

Final Thoughts

In the four weeks that I have been using the Revival Masque and Hydrating oil capsules, I have NOTHING negative to say except that it ain’t cheap.  I have enjoyed using the products and my skin thanks and rewards me with beautiful, radiant skin.

While I did notice some difference in my skin, it wasn’t anything drastic as you can see from the before and after pictures. The fine lines underneath my eyes are just marginally improved but maybe I need to give it more time.

I will definitely purchase these products again because I like ‘things’, but most importantly, even though the results after one month isn’t life-changing, the fact that I see results in itself is sufficient for me to repurchase.

The price makes me sweat a little but I will spend the money, even if it means eating pap and gravy alone for the next couple of months. My face is worth it.

If you have concerns about ageing, fine lines, dehydrated skin and all the rest of it, and like to indulge yourself every now and again then I would suggest that you try the Environ range because why have ugly skin when you can have flawless skin?

Environ is currently running a few exciting limited Focus Care range value offers. If you purchase the Youth+ Revival Masque 50ml or the Moisture+ Hydrating Upsized Oil Capsules, you get 10 FREE oil capsules. And, if you purchase the upsized Focus Care Comfort Colostrum Gel or the Youth+ Avance Elixir, you get 20ml FREE!

Tried & Tested – The New TRESemme Botanic Cleansing Conditioner

I was one of the few lucky people that got to test and review the Botanic Cleansing Conditioner (Moisture & Replenish) by Tresemme. The co-washing cleansing conditioner is a new product on the South African market.

Sure, I’ve heard of co-washing – a method of washing your hair where you replace shampoo with conditioner – but  I’d never really thought  I’d be testing it on my hair!

  1. Will my hair be clean using conditioner alone?
  2. Will my hair fall out?

These were some of the questions that plagued me.

I did a bit of research online and based on my findings I discovered that co-washing is not just for curly-haired sisters as I initially thought.  Turns out any hair type can use the co-washing method too especially if:

i)  You want  clean hair but don’t want  it stripped of its natural oils.

ii) You are averse to harsh chemicals and ingredients in your shampoo like parabens, dyes and sulphates.

iii) You want soft, easy to manage hair.

About  Tresemme Botanic Cleansing Conditioner (Moisture & Replenish)

This product retails for R79.99 at Clicks, Dis-Chem and Pick N Pay. The new range of cleansing conditioners from Tresemme are shampoo-free formulas that cleanse, balance and refresh your hair without stripping or depleting its natural oils and nutrients. Can I get an Amen!

As much as I had my reservations, I always do when trying new products, I sort of felt like I was in good company because of the brand. I use Tresemme shampoo and conditioner to wash and condition all my wigs and weaves. I used to use Tresemme on my hair before I went natural so there was a level of comfort knowing I wasn’t stepping into unfamiliar territory.

Review of Tresemme Botanic Moisture & Replenish Cleansing Conditioner with Coconut and Aloe Vera

Video Clip

I typically only wash my hair once every month. I probably should wash it more frequently because I have dry scalp but I wear wigs most of the time and I have this old-school belief that us curly haired girls are not supposed to wash our hair too often.

I had just loosened my plaits  after a month of wearing my hair in plaits so I had  dry scalp. I proceeded to use the Tresseme Cleansing Conditioner as I would a  regular shampoo.

I noticed that
  1. My hair did not lather as it does when I use a shampoo
  2. My hair felt really soft, it was just as soft as if I used a conditioner which I guess is what I did
  3. My hair smelt delicious

I used this product on my hair twice and even my hair stylist was impressed by the softness and manageability of my kinky curls which had become easier to manipulate than usual.

Conclusion

I don’t think I will substitute a cleansing conditioner for a shampoo but I will definitely reach for the Tresemme Botanic Moisture & Replenish Cleansing Conditioner more regularly. I would probably also use it in conjunction with a clarifying shampoo. Because I did notice that even though it was gentle on my hair, and it softened it, it didn’t get rid of the dry, flaky skin I tend to get on my scalp.

As a matter of fact, I saw some dry, flaky patches on my scalp immediately after my hairstylist had applied hair food and plaited my hair into cornrows.

But…

  1. Will I use this product again?  Yes.
  2. Will I recommend it? Also yes.

Tresemme Botanic Moisture & Replenish cleansing conditioner  is available at Clicks, Dischem, Pick n Pay and Rubybox.

Thursday Plantation Acne Range Review

Three weeks ago, Rubybox sent me Thursday Plantation’s acne range to test and review.

The range includes:

  1. Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash R209.95 at Wellnesswarehouse

2. Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Toner – R205.95 at Wellnesswarehouse

3. Tea Tree Face Cream – R215. 95 at Wellnesswarehouse

For targeted application
  1. Tea Tree Blemish Stick
  2. Tea Tree Blemish Gel

I’d never heard of Thursday Plantation so before I used the products I thought I’d do a little research and find out a little bit more about the brand whose products I was going to be using on my face for the next few weeks.

Thursday Plantation is an all natural Australian health and beauty company whose products are derived from tea tree oil. They are Australia’s No.1 natural acne brand.

The acne range which includes tea tree oil, similarly in all their products is said to provide an effective and natural way to treat acne-prone skin, without harming or damaging it.

But first, tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil
  • Apart from the fact that tea tree oil is a tongue twister, (just try to say it really fast 10 times and then you’ll get my point) it is great for treating acne because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Tea tree oil is also known to be as effective as Benzoyl Peroxide  – a chemical commonly used to treat acne – without the side effects.
  • Because it is also natural, it is very gentle on the skin

I have acne-prone skin and tend to break out when I am stressed, before and after my menstrual cycle so I was pretty excited to try this range. I was sent the Thursday Plantation Acne range in addition to the Tea Tree Blemish stick to test and review.

Detailed below is my review of the products.

Review of Thursday Plantation Acne range
My daily routine
  1. Cleanse with Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash – This cleanser comes out of the bottle foamy.  I use it to wash my already wet face.
  2. Tone with Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Toner – With a cotton pad, I use the toner to wipe my face.
  3.  Moisturise and hydrate with Tea Tea Face Cream – I apply a generous amount of the cream on my face.
Results & Overview

I didn’t notice any changes in the first two weeks. However, there was an overproduction of oil on my face. I have oily skin so I was NOT happy about this. Even though it is now spring, the weather is still relatively cold so I did not expect to get so oily.

By week 3 I was breaking break out, (something I have come to expect and that occurs pre and post my menstrual cycle) I used the Tea Tree Blemish Stick which worked wonders and by day 2, the spots had cleared.

I don’t have severe acne except for those few times that I break out during the month so that may likely have resulted in why I didn’t notice any significant changes using the Thursday Plantation range.

However, I did enjoy using the blemish stick which was really convenient and easy to use.

The range, particularly the foaming face wash has a really strong antiseptic smell from the tea tree oil which I did not care for. So if you’re sensitive to smell, you may find it a bit overwhelming.

Recommendations

The Blemish Stick is my favourite in this range.  I would definitely recommend it. I LOVE the easy application of the stick. I can carry it in my bag and apply the product at any time, plus it works!

Justine Dailycare Perfecting Range Review & Giveaway

Just a month ago, I started using the Justine Dailycare Perfecting range. I was invited to test and review this 3-step range by Rubybox Beauty South Africa for Justine South Africa.

The Justine Dailycare Perfecting range consists of three essential products in any skincare arsenal, namely, cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

I had just a few months prior come to the conclusion that I needed to upgrade my skincare regime and by an upgrade, I mean – splurge. I had this idea that the more expensive a product is, the more effective it is. So, you can imagine that I was quite sceptical about the Justine Dailycare range which is anything but expensive.

Having never used Justine products before and not knowing anyone who had, I had zero to some might even say low expectations.

What does the Dailycare Perfecting range do?

The Dailycare Perfecting range is noted to be for sensitive, uneven skin. The range consists of the Dailycare Perfecting Foaming Cleanser (R79), Dailycare Perfecting Toner (R79) and the Dailycare Perfecting Moisturising Day cream(R159).

Whether your uneven skin is caused by hyperpigmentation, acne marks, sun or age spots, this range claims to help improve your skin’s overall appearance.

I have oily/combination skin and I typically go through an 8 to 10 step skincare routine but I had to forego all my fancy, tedious routine and only use the Dailycare Perfecting range which consists of only 3 steps.

Routine

I used these three products religiously, day and night for 29 days. I would start by washing my face with the Dailycare Perfecting Foaming Cleanser. This cleanser is clear with a moisturising, gel-like consistency. I didn’t find it to have a foaming consistency but it did have a cleansing and hydrating feel on my face. I never felt like it was stripping my face of its natural oils nor did my face feel squeaky clean, just clean, hydrated and refreshed. It also has a lovely fragrance that I can’t quite describe. Not overwhelming, just light, delicate and feminine. Must be the ‘parfum’ included in the list of ingredients.

After washing my face with the Dailycare Perfecting Cleanser, I would proceed with a cotton pad and the Dailycare Perfecting Toner. This  is a clear water-like substance which I would wipe over my face with a cotton pad. It also has the same fragrance as the foaming cleanser.

Last on my routine is the Dailycare Perfecting Moisturising Day cream with SPF 25 which I apply on my face and neck. The cream is white in colour with a grey tinge upon application which I believe is as a result of the SPF. The grey disappears after a couple of seconds.

Weekly Review

Even though I did not expect much from these products, my face went through weekly changes to the extent that I considered discontinuing the use of the products.

I had just ended my monthly menstruation cycle when I began using these products so you can see the breakouts on my face in the ‘before’ pictures. You can also see the discolouration.

Week 1

After just one week of using the products, I started to notice some changes. My face was noticeably brighter but my pores were so enlarged, I began to worry. I have large pores around the corners of my nose which I have been trying to minimise so to see the large pores extend beyond my nose area to my cheeks, almost reaching my jawline freaked me out.
At this point, I contemplated calling it quits thinking, “this range is not for me” but I persevered.

Week 2

At this point, my skin was beginning to peel. My forehead looked like I was malnourished and missing some key nutrients in my diet. I knew I had to start exfoliating so I began exfoliating every four days.

Week 3

The exfoliation seemed to help, because my skin was beginning to look bright, clear and nourished.

Week 4

My face is noticeably brighter, the pores are not as enlarged and I don’t even have to exfoliate as often as every four days. I revert to my usual once a week exfoliation schedule.

See Week 1 – Now spot the dark mark on my forehead in the picture on the far right. Considerable improvement, wouldn’t you say?

Pros

1. V-E-R-Y Affordable.

2. It does what it says – brighter, even skin tone, and increased cell renewal.

3. It smells great.

Cons

1. I felt that the products made me a little more oily than normal especially within the first two weeks.

2. The peeling and enlarged pores were a bit of a shock but with exfoliation, I was as right as rain!

Verdict

This product works. It does what it claims, which is to increase skin’s brightness, increase cell renewal and even skin tone. It did all of that for my skin. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable product to help with uneven skin concerns. I love it! Through this process, I have learnt that the efficacy of a product does not depend on its price.
